Diagnostically, we assess all parts of the ear to see what type of treatment is needed. Should there be an obstruction of cerumen (wax) in the ear canal, our experienced clinician will remove the cerumen in office.

Once observation of the outer ear is complete, our audiologist will evaluated the middle and inner ear. This is completed using tympanometry, pure tone air conduction, bone conduction, word discrimination testing, speech recognition testing, and speech in noise testing. It is important for the doctor of audiology to determine how the ears and brain are working together to understand all aspects of hearing loss.

After thorough evaluation of the ear and brain, as well as history provided by the patient, the audiologists will make recommendations. Should the patient need medical treatment of the ear, we will recommend this before other rehabilitation processes such as hearing aids begin as the overall health of the ear and brain is our first priority.
